Te Akau Racing took just the one horse north for the Counties meeting on Wednesday and that was enough for them to secure victory at the South Auckland track.
Pacific Coast made it three wins from just eight starts when he got the bob on the line in the closely contested Ssangyong 1200.
The four-year-old gelding jumped away well from barrier four before jockey Opie Bosson settled him midfield before pulling him wide at the turn to run down Air Centre to win by a nose.
“There was a bit of speed on, the original plan was for him to go forward,” stable representative Teina Walters said.
“Opie got him into a clear spot and he really kicked home well. I wasn’t too sure if he got up on the line, but he managed to get there. I am very happy for the owners, quite a few are here today.”
Pacific Coast was purchased by David Ellis for $500,000 out of Curraghmore's 2016 New Zealand Bloodstock draft. -NZ Racing Desk
