Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs scored their fourth win from the first six races at Ruakaka on Saturday when Rocknrolla bravely edged out the favourite Late Decision in the Northpine Waipu Cup.

The Towkay mare was a highly impressive winner at Ruakaka last month, but then went to Te Rapa and was a disappointing sixth. Logan put the performance down to the sticky track conditions and expected a better showing in drier conditions on her home patch this afternoon. She was exactly right and Rocknrolla improved her Ruakaka track statistics to eight starts for three wins and three placings.

Ridden by Trudy Thornton, Rocknrolla surged past her tiring stablemate To Be Sure in the straight and took control of the $30,000 contest.

Late Decision suddenly emerged as a real danger on her outside, moving up beside her with a turn of foot that looked likely to carry him straight past. But Rocknrolla lifted on his inside and clung on by a head. Runner-up Late Decision finished four lengths ahead of the third-placed Biologist.

"Beautiful win," Logan said. "I didn't think she was very well off at the weights today (54 kilograms with a rating of 76), but she fought hard and won it nicely. It's great to get four wins for the day."

In addition to completing a quartet of victories for Logan and Gibbs, Rocknrolla provided a third win this afternoon for jockey Trudy Thornton.

Bred at Curraghmore by Mark Treloar Rocknrolla is by Towkay out of his Danske mare Danness, who has also produced Red Dawn, a four time winner in Singapore. Rocknrolla is raced by Treloar Donna Logan, Kim O'Riley, Len Reed, Tane Beckham, Nathan Pene, John Frew, Myra Langstone, Jan & Dave Mein & C Thomson -www.theinformant.co.nz
